Art and response go hand-in-hand. Viewing an image or painting that evokes emotion and provokes thought that encourages conversation goes a long way in terms of deepening understanding of perception and society.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, activist and artist Michael D’Antuono released a new painting entitled “The Talk,” which highlights the “inconsistent progress America has made concerning racial justice since Dr. King’s historic Selma to Montgomery marches,” a press release sent to JET stated.
“The Talk” displays a distressed Martin Luther King, Jr. and President Barack Obama hanging on opposite ends of a wall as a family sits with their son while the news reports the non-indictment of a white police officer in the shooting of an unarmed black child.
“I doubt that Dr. King would have ever dreamed that in 2015, African American parents would still find it necessary to warn their young sons about the dangers of being black in America,” said D’Antuono in the press release.
Feel free to share your thoughts on “The Talk” and what actions can be taken to execute better tomorrows.
