Unbalanced

(Fox News)
48″ x 36″ | oil on canvas

This painting depicts effects on some people of hate-mongering being offered on some 24 hour cable news outlets like FOX NEWS. Consider the murder of Dr. Tiller after Bill O’Reilly’s repeated diatribes, or the shooting of Congresswoman Gabriel Gifford and others in Arizona and you realize the cause and effect.

“Obviously he’s gonna use Fox News because in his opinion and I can see why they stir up the most hateful emotion.”

Really? You want to back that up and quantify it with some stats? I guarantee that each example you dig up I can counter with two from MSNBC.

I do not need ANY news show giving me commentary in small emotional soundbites. I can think for myself and do not need the rants of any news organization to cloud the facts with appeals to emotional outrage.

The systemic problem is that folks let talking heads do their thinking for them. They are either intellectually lazy or just don’t have the skills to think critically to develop and defend their own argument.

You are quite right. They are in the commentary business of emotional soundbites to complex issues. If they spent their time presenting the facts in an unbiased fashion, most of the general public would tune out because of the mental anguish of having to think and come to their own conclusions.

1 hour of reporting the news based on facts without commentary:

“duh-deh…..wha di da man in the TV say? My head hurts” ….changes the channel to Real Housewives of “add your city here”, Lizard Lick Towing, or any of the other mind numbing wastes of time. Yep. We just love being lied to.

I don’t care what ones beliefs are. I only care that they arrived at them through critical thought and not indoctrination.

“shooting of Congresswoman gabriel Gifford and others in Arizona and you realize the cause and effect”

The murderer was not influenced by Fox news:

Loughner’s high school friend Zach Osler said, “He did not watch TV; he
disliked the news; he didn’t listen to political radio; he didn’t take
sides; he wasn’t on the Left; he wasn’t on the Right.”

And then we have an example of the SPLC listing the Family Research Council as a hate organization on their website. A crazy man with murder on his mind went armed to the address of their HQ listed on the site and was luckily restrained before he could massacre the people inside.

If you are trying to make a statement, you should reflect on your own bias.

I find this work more a product born of hypocrisy and of no intellectual or artistic value. What a waste of time.
